This accredited exam is accepted in all states/jurisdictions that have mandatory certification requirements for Food Management Professionals.

The Learn2Serve Food Protection Manager Exam is designed to test and assess food managers on competencies relevant to food protection. The intent of this examination is to certify that each food manager has demonstrated by means of a food safety certification examination to a certifying organization that he or she has the knowledge, skills and abilities required to protect the public from food borne illness.

The exam will be proctored by an employee at the test center location.  After purchasing the exam, please  visit to schedule your exam.  A candidate must pass a food safety examination from an accredited certification provider as recognized by ANSI-CFP. The certificate will be valid for a maximum period of 5 years. We do recommend checking with your local health department as certificates may expire sooner.

Upon successful completion and passing of the Learn2Serve Food Protection Manager Exam, your official certificate of completion will be mailed within 15 days.


The Learn2Serve Food Protection Manager Certification must be passed with a 64% or higher in order to receive a certificate of completion.

How to Become a California Food Safety Manager

Every California retail food establishment must have one certified Food Safety Manager to comply with state law. All other employees who prepare food must have a Food Handler Card.

Who Can Be a Food Safety Manager?

Anyone can get certified. Managers, Chefs, or anyone responsible for safe food handling.

How Do You Become a California Food Safety Manager?

To get certified as a Food Safety Manager in California you must pass an approved, 85-question certification exam, with a score of 75% or higher, from an exam provider. Then, you renew the certificate every 5 years.

How Do You Get a Food Handler Card?

All other food establishment employees who prepare and serve food must successfully complete a food safety course and pass a certification examination.

What about a Food Safety Class?

While a food safety class is not required for a Food Safety Manager certification, it is strongly recommended. A Food Safety Manager course will cover food safety issues, regulations, and techniques to maintain a food-safe environment.
